TRACK OF THE WEEK
“Suddenly” by Mercy Music
Cruising through the scene for more than a decade and turning heads along the way, this week’s featured Band of the Week shows what dedication and hard work can accomplish. Coming from Las Vegas, Nevada, Mercy Music has worked tirelessly creating music defined by skilled songwriting and undeniable talent. Their music carries the spirit of punk rock, but it also embraces melody in a way that makes every hook feel larger that the room around it.
What began as a solo project for vocalist and guitarist Brenden Scholz gradually transformed into a full band and eventually into one of the most recognizable independent acts to come out of Southern Nevada. Alongside bassist Jarred Cooper, Mercy Music developed a sound that grabs your attention from the moment they start playing. Their tracks are filled with infectious melodies, impressive vocals, and instrumentation that compliments the songwriting at every turn. Their collection of material is made for long drives, crowded clubs, and everything in between.
Over the years, the band has earned a reputation through consistency and memorable live performances. Extensive touring, festival appearances, and countless shows have helped introduce their music to audiences across the United States and Europe. Along the way, Mercy Music has brought their songs to venues like Backstage Bar & Billiards, The Dive Bar, and 24 Oxford inside Virgin Hotels Las Vegas while also appearing at festivals including Life Is Beautiful, Punk Rock Bowling and SXSW. Their music has also found its way into the hands of respected artists within the punk community, a testament to the quality of work they’ve produced over the course of their career. Whether sharing stages with established names or headlining their own main events, Mercy Music approaches every opportunity with the same commitment that helped them rise from local beginnings.
Releases such as Nothing in the Dark released on Wiretap/SBAM Records with tracks like “Nothing in the Dark” and “Even If I’ve Lost”, and What You Stand to Lose with tracks like “Suddenly” released on SBAM/Double Helix Records showcase a band that has never stopped writing great songs and remains true to their foundations.
Mercy Music represents what can happen when persistence and belief in your music never fades. Their work carries an emotional sincerity, their performances leave audiences wanting one more song, and their story reflects dedication and genuine musicianship. More than a decade after the project first began, the band continues to create, perform, and connect with listeners here at home and all around the world, making them — a band worth featuring — and always worth watching.
