About the backroom
Why the backroom exists
The Backroom is an independent music magazine built to spotlight emerging bands and the scenes they come from locally, nationally, and around the world.
We focus on artists who are carving out their own path. Bands with strong identity, honest songwriting, and a sound that feels alive. The Backroom is about highlighting music that connects and deserves to be heard.
How we feature bands & cities
Each week, we feature:
Band of the Week - a deeper editorial spotlight on one standout artist
City of the Week - exploring the places shaping today’s independent music, through the bands coming out of them
Alongside these features, The Backroom is a growing archive of independent artists, scenes, and sounds, built slowly and intentionally.
We believe good music speaks for itself. Our role is to give it space, context, and a platform that artists are proud to share.
submissions
Bands from any city are welcome to submit music for consideration. Submitting does not guarantee coverage. All submissions are reviewed editorially.
Cities and bands are selected based on originality, presence, and contribution to their local music community.
Any photos used are provided by artists or their representatives and credited where applicable.
If you’re a band looking to be featured, submissions are always open. If You’re a fan,
Welcome, pull up a chair and stay a while.
